The art-science interface allows us to probe principles in unexpected ways, through shifts in vantage points and alternative approaches. We are only beginning to explore the potential of diversity in understanding microbial population dynamics and the persistence of organic carbon in the environment,- and since we are soil scientists, we dig deep.
“Fifty Shades of Soil” explores the diversity of soils using climate and biogeochemical data for each site that can be seen marching behind the figurines made from soil and up the walls of the installation; soils were taken across the United States (VERTIMUS exhibition, Karine Bonneval, Tjaden Hall, Cornell University, November 2019)
