Residencies are open to anyone who is interested in engaging with the community at The Soil Factory, including but not limited to artists, scientists, musicians, community organizers, activists, environmentalists. This program started in November 2021 and utilizes a small house with access to the land and programming at The Soil Factory. We are experimenting with innovative approaches to bring people together that would normally not meet to generate connections for building a sustainable future. A few examples where exciting networks started to expand in unexpected ways, are listed below.
Nance Klehm visited The Soil Factory in December 2021, on invitation by Anna Ialeggio, initially to deliver indigenous seeds to the region. Nance spent time to celebrate World Soil Day on December 5 with over 50 participants that built a compost pit, a flame curtain kiln to make biochar, and share food around the fire.
The contagiously collaborative team of theater artist Donna Oblongata & visual artist Patrick Costello spent a couple of weeks at The Soil Factory in November 2021, also on invitation by Anna Ialeggio. Donna and Patrick proposed the Fecal Ferris that produces biochar from human feces, over similarly-themed food.
BREAD&PUPPET visited briefly in March, 2022,, on invitation by Anna Ialeggio, and hope to come back some time soon.
